Understanding Sleep Stages & Brainwaves

Sleep is divided into different stages, each with its own role in helping your body recover. These stages include light sleep, deep sleep, and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. During deep sleep, your body performs essential restorative functions, and REM sleep is key for cognitive functions like memory, emotional regulation, and learning.

Your brain waves vary throughout these stages. In deep sleep, your brain produces slow waves, known as Delta waves, which are associated with the restorative processes that happen during this stage. REM sleep, on the other hand, is marked by fast, active brain waves, and it is during this stage that you experience the most vivid dreams.

MDsleep & REM Sleep

MDsleep has shown to significantly improve sleep quality, especially REM sleep. REM sleep is the stage where most of our dreams occur and plays a critical role in memory, cognitive function, and emotional health. By reducing stress and promoting GABA production, MDsleep can help you experience more restful, uninterrupted REM sleep.

Data collected from users of MDsleep, such as through the Oura ring, shows consistent improvements in sleep quality—particularly with the increase in REM sleep.

The Impact of Aging on Sleep

As you age, it’s natural for deep sleep to decrease. However, even with aging, there are ways to improve both the amount and quality of deep sleep. Staying consistent with sleep hygiene practices, managing stress, and using sleep aids like MDsleep can help counteract some of the effects of aging on sleep.
